The 27th annual Christkindlmart beginning December 10-12, 2015 which highlights the German heritage of the community will be held in Mifflinburg, PA another charming central PA community just a short eight mile drive from Lewisburg. The earliest Christmas markets in Germany date back to 1434 when merchants set up their wares near the local churches to encourage community members to purchase gifts and food for the holiday. Mifflinburg is transformed each year for three days to focus on those old world traditions of unique food and crafts.
You will want to check out cookies, German roasted nuts, strudel, pork schnitzel, bratwurst, knockwurst, and mulled wine just to name some of the delicacies available. Be awed by glass ornaments being blown by craftspersons and hand painted. See the creation of spun trees (Spanbaume), turned trees (Krauselbaume) and for sale will be candle arches, Christmas pyramids and nutcrackers.
Entertainment both inside and outside takes place throughout the event. This is truly a unique event–not to be missed! For more information, log onto http://www.oldchristkindl.com or call 1-888-666-0877.
